This antique onyx brooch is featuring a large rose cut diamond. The border is made of 14 karat yellow gold, which has a beautifully scalloped edge and very fine engravings. The brooch is provided with a gold safety chain, which will secure the brooch. The pin at the back is made of metal base. 

 

This onyx brooch is a magnificent piece from Victorian Era.

 

Fun fact - Onyx jewelry were mostly worn in The Grand Victorian Era, between ca. 1861-1880. Saddens by the death of the Queen’s husband, Prince Albert, mourning became an art for the Victorians. Who designed black clothes and jewelry to be worn in the months following the death of a relatives. Mostly, jewelry were made from jet, a fossilized coal or black onyx. These materials could also be adorned with seed pearls, which imitates tears.
