One-of-a-kind multi-strand antique black jet mourning necklace, featuring an amazing large and heavy solid 14 karat yellow gold clasp. The perfectly round black beads are at least 12 millimeter in diameter, the middle of the bead a slightly raised edge. The stunning solid 14 karat gold clasp has a depiction of a sailing boat made of hair. Around the boat image, the clasp is decorated with filigree, the so-called 'spiders'. At each corner of the clasp angels are winged. This 19th century mourning necklace featuring very fine filigree, which is very skillfully handcrafted and gives the impression of lace or fine embroidery
 
The clasp is made between 1874 and 1923 by the Rozendaal brothers in Hoorn, The Netherlands. This kind of jewelry was worn in mourning by Volendam women.
 
The gold has the Dutch purity hallmark.
