These one-of-a-kind Dutch antique 'forehead needles' are a pair of 14 karat gold forehead ornaments with filigree, cannetille and seed pearls. The scenery is beautifully made of very fine filigree. This scene is called ‘cornucopia’, which means abundance.
In some Dutch fishing villages women of shipping owners and people of the middle class distinguished themselves in their fashionable clothing from the poorer wives of the fishermen. The women of the shipowners wore long hats and occasional side needles. Fishermen's wives wore a short hood and had no needles.
This jewelry set would make a exquisite addition to a gold jewelry collection or a wonderful gift for an antique jewelry collector. The forehead needles are in excellent antique condition. They come in a beautiful jewelry box.
