Fun fact - Enamel peint - painted enamel - is an enamel learning technique that took off in the 15th and 16th centuries and was mainly used in Limoges (France). A drawing was engraved in a roughened copper plate. The plate was then provided with a layer of white enamel. The image was subsequently applied to this in different color enamel. From the mid-16th century, grisaille enamel developed from this. A black background was used for this and the show was executed in white enamel. This resulted in gray paintings. By making the layer of white enamel thicker, all color nuances between black and white could be achieved. Both of these techniques can therefore be painted freely without the need for metal separations between different colors. The application therefore became more and more the work of the painter and less of the goldsmith. Formally, these techniques therefore largely fall outside the scope of the forging industry.
