Magnificent antique onyx locket pendant brooch featuring many gorgeous diamonds. This locket pendant featuring a bouquet applique with many rose cut diamonds, approximately 0,60 carats in total. This 14 karat gold jewel can also be worn as a brooch. At the back you see a glass plate intended for a lock of hair or photo of a relatives and could be worn as mourning jewelry. The eyelet of this pendant is made of black enamel, decorated with a golden fleur de lis motif on top.

 

Onyx jewelry were mostly worn in The Grand Victorian Era, between ca. 1861-1880. Saddens by the death of the Queen’s husband, Prince Albert, mourning became an art for the Victorians. Who designed black clothes and jewelry to be worn in the months following the death of a relatives. Mostly, jewelry were made from jet, a fossilized coal or black onyx. These materials could also be adorned with seed pearls, which imitates tears.
