Magnificent antique four-strand red garnet beaded bracelet. This antique bracelet featuring a 14 karat yellow gold oval clasp, which is decorated with very fine filigree knots, the so-called 'spiders'. The center of the clasp is adorned with a big garnet. This bracelet was worn by a Zeeland woman, in the southern part of the Netherlands as part of the regional dress.

Fun fact - The filigree knots or 'spiders' were an important part of the traditional Zeeland costume for centuries. As a piece of jewelry, the knot became a showpiece that symbolized Zeeland's pride and rich cultural history. The Zeeland knot was created as collar buttons on the shirt collar of the 18th-century farmers, the so-called throat knots. The throat nodes slowly changed shape over the years. Around 1870, the Zeeland knot took its current form, with each of the Zeeland islands having their own variations. From the end of the 19th century, women started wearing the knots as jewelry on, as a hat pin of their traditional costume, as a brooch or in other jewelry. It is also said that the shape is based on the flower with the Latin name Astranti: "Zeeland knot".
