One-of-a-kind antique 14 karat gold stick pin. This nineteen century cannetille filigree stick pin featuring very fine filigree flowers applied on a gold pin, which is very skillfully handcrafted and gives the impression of lace or fine embroidery.
This is a so-called tower pin, featuring one seed pearl and belong to the regional dress in The Netherlands. These pins were worn in pairs and were pushed backwards into the hat above the forehead needle on both sides between the curls of the ear iron.
These marvelous jewels were part of an ear iron. It is unique and important of the national costume and tradition in The Netherlands. It started as a 'simple' accessory, a kind of peasant jewelry that women worn in some Dutch regions. In the beginning created to secure expensive lace skullcaps from the gusts of sea winds, the simple iron band evolved into an ornate headdress, to display family wealth in the form of valuable metals and detailed filigree and cannetille.
The gold has the Dutch purity hallmark.
