Elegant 14 karat gold antique multi-strand faceted garnet necklace. This 19th century filigree necklace featuring very fine flowers or the so-called 'spiders' applied on this handmade clasp. The filigree is very skillfully handcrafted and gives the impression of lace or fine embroidery. The necklace has five strands which are beautifully strung with faceted dark red garnets. 
 
These kinds of necklaces – regional jewelry – were worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands as part of the regional dress during 19th century. 
 
The filigree clasp consists of thin gold wire, twisted or plaited into refined motifs. This technique demands a very high skill and precision from the craftsman. While the surface is decorated with cannetille, flat and convex ornaments.
 
The gold has the Dutch purity hallmark.
