These beautiful Dutch antique 14 karat gold drop earrings featuring a naturel red coral cabochon. These former 'hat bells' have a filigree border inlaid with a red coral cabochon. Each earring has two coral stones, a smaller coral in the earpiece and a bigger cabochon coral in the pendant. The coral is set in clamps and have tassels underneath. 
 
This kind of jewelry was worn by women as hat bells. These bells were hooked into the front strip of the cornet hat. Hat bells are a kind of earrings that were hung in the front of the hat. Typical pieces of the Northwest Veluwe region.
