These magnificent antique Dutch almond-shaped 14 karat gold drop earrings are in Dutch called “mutsenbellen”. Beautiful and rich decorated with filigree and the so-called 'spiders'. The earrings have a scalloped border and in the center a drop-shaped flat stamped gold band. Below and on the sides of the earrings adorned with three small balls. The backside is hollow and there you see the thin gold wire of the filigree technique.

This kind of jewelry was worn in 19th century by Dutch women as hat bells. These types of bells were hooked into the front strip of the cornet hat. Hat bells are a kind of earrings that were hung in the front edge of a hat.

They would make a fine addition to an antique jewelry collection or to a jewelry collector. The earrings are in excellent antique condition.
