Beautiful and delicate 14 karat yellow gold filigree shield pendant necklace. The shield pendant of this necklace is beautifully detailed with granulation and fine filigree. The filigree is very skillfully handcrafted and gives the impression of lace or fine embroidery. You can see many tiny balls all over this piece, also known as granulation, with flower stamped gold convex. The center is provided with a flower motif, also featuring granulation and stamped gold. The border of this shield pendant completes this gorgeous jewelry with her granulation. 
 
Fun fact - This headdress ornament was part of an 'ear iron'. It was unique and important of the national costume and tradition in The Netherlands. It started as a 'simple' accessory, a kind of peasant jewelry that women worn in some regions in The Netherlands. In the beginning created to secure expensive lace skullcaps from the gusts of sea winds, the simple iron band evolved into an ornate headdress, to display family wealth in the form of valuable metals and detailed filigree and cannetille.
