This Victorian nineteenth century cameo lava brooch is absolutely gorgeous. The high relief lava is set in a 14 karat yellow gold frame. The high relief depicts a graceful muse playing her lyre. The gold border is finely detailed with twisted ribbon around the edge, rope motifs and granulation on it's surface. The thin lava cameo is beautifully crafted by hand.

The depiction is presumably Terpsichore, daughter of Zeus and one of the nine muses in Greek mythology. Her name means 'she who likes to dance' and she is the muse of dance and lyrical poetry, and the patroness of the choir. Her attribute is the lyre.

The length of the brooch is 4.1 centimeters and width 3.5 centimeters.

The brooch weighs 12.24 grams.

This gold cameo lava brooch will arrive beautifully gift wrapped in a Heztia presentation box, tied up with lace and a ribbon.
