This gorgeous one-of-kind antique five-strand red coral necklace was part of the Dutch regional dress around 1900. The coral beads on the strings are barrel shaped. The beautiful clasp of this necklace comprised of 14 karat gold, beautifully adorned with filigree and cannetille work. This 19th century necklace featuring a very fine etched flower on the closure of this handmade clasp, which is very skillfully handcrafted and gives the impression of lace or fine embroidery.
The size of the coral has a diameter of 6 millimeters. The length of the smallest string is 41 centimeters and the diameter of the clasp is 3.5 x 6.5 centimeters. The entire necklace weighs 127 grams, included clasp.
This kind of necklaces – regional jewelry – were worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands around 1900 as part of the regional dress, especially worn in the northern part of The Netherlands.
This necklace is quite unique and makes an impressive statement on the neck. The necklace is in excellent antique condition and ready to wear or to gift.
